The Applehouse Vineyard

The Applehouse vineyard was one of the first commercial plantings in Prince Edward County.  Rather than clay and rocks, the soil is an ancient beach.  The coarse sand is several feet deep and gives ample water and nutrients to nourish the vines.   With a view of Lake Ontario, the vines enjoy a special microclimate -- the summers are cooled by the lake, but the season is lengthened by the proximity to the water.  Generally we make the Applehouse Riesling in a dry style, so afficiandos can better appreciate the delicate nuances of this remarkable variety.
